Creatives do more for UK economy than the City

The confirmation that the UK creative business is equivalent to the financial sector in GDP terms is great, but not representative.

The confirmation that the UK creative business is equivalent to the financial sector in GDP terms (DW 28 June) is great, but not representative.

Why? Financial services have only a limited degree of creative delivery and are essentially about managing a resource that others generate (you don’t want a creative accountant, do you?).

Creative services are fundamentally about delivering new markets, added value, and competitive advantage – all of which lead to growth in other sectors. Qualitatively then, creative services are more important to the UK economy than the financial sector.

It’s about time it was officially recognised.
