First findings from industry questionnaire

The design industry is looking to its representative bodies to court clients as a top priority, according to a trawl of Design Week readers and Design Business Association members.

It also rates professional status very highly, and favours a system of accreditation of individual designers and consultancies and registers of both.

The findings have emerged from a questionnaire circulated as part of the ongoing review of design industry representation, initiated by the DBA and involving the Design Council, Design Week and, until last week, the Chartered Society of Designers.

Full results will be given to delegates at a conference to be held at Dean Clough in Halifax next week to give them some indication of what the industry would like from a trade body or bodies in the future.

The review has received great support from design industry leaders, including two past CSD presidents who will take part in the conference. Other delegates will include representatives from Government and client companies.
