We need better links with industry and education
With reference to Colum Lowe’s Private View (DW 5 June), I agree that there need to be fewer places for design graduates. There should be a directive that relates to the statistics that Lowe quoted, which would help to reduce the numbers and improve the quality.
It is high time that the schools of design produced graduates with a better understanding of what to do when they start their first job.
We have been training mid-career students who come to us with business skills and know what the client needs. This experience is invaluable. If we can increase the involvement between industry and education then we will see results.
