Herman Miller’s Aeron chair wasn’t available until 1994

While it was a privilege to be included in your Twenty Years On supplement in the Jeremy Myerson article Essential Selection, I would like to point out that the Aeron chair was launched in 1994, not 1992.

The Aeron chair was in ‘use testing’ (part of the R&D process) in 1992, with prototypes delivered to local companies in western Michigan for feedback and review.

In 1993, plans were made for its launch. Since 1994, Aeron has gone on to sell more than three million units worldwide. It remains one of Herman Miller’s best-selling products.

Sadly, its designer, Bill Stumpf, died in August this year.
