Beechams Powders livens up packaging

Two of the Beechams Powders family of products from pharmaceutical company SmithKline Beecham hit the shelves this week with new packaging.

The designer is London’s Dohm Puzey, which is one of six consultancies on SmithKline Beecham’s roster. Dohm Puzey has previously created new packaging for products such as Beechams Flu-Plus dissolving powders (DW 5 January).

Beechams Lemon Tablets “needed livening up”, according to group partner Louise Dohm. “We wanted them to look like a convenience product, and communicate that they taste nice.”

The new-look Flu-Plus Caplets have an embossed red line to “make the product stand out”, says Dohm. Both packs are predominantly blue, in line with the brand’s heritage.

Beechams Powders is the only product in the existing range which has not recently been redesigned, according to Dohm, who is unaware of any plans SKB may have to change it.

Very disappointed with new packaging. Who wants to look for scissors when you have a headache, you just want to get the packet open. The plastic packet puffs out the medication when opened. One very disappointed customer.

Heartily agree. Seems less product, though could be powder is finer. Don’t like new packaging at all. Also most sachet type packages have a little ‘tear’ so that you can then rip across packet. As the new packaging has already made the powders more expensive surely they could have included the little ‘tear’. Not happy at all.

I have used these powders for years and am disappointed to see this NEW packaging. We are supposed to be reducing plastic, not using more. The paper wrapping was excellent, easy to open AND recyclable, this is also an excuse to give LESS powder and increase price. Very disillusioned with this.

It is shocking ignorance shown by changing to plastic when the world needs to reduce such packaging.

Why has no shops or chemists , got any Beecham powders.( why change something, that works and sells, it’s stupidity) . ( like the old saying, why fix something that’s not broken).
