Why not pop into the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition at the Hayward Gallery? More than 200 images of Mapplethorpe’s photographs are on display. These include society portraits, his flower studies, portraits of sadomasochism and athletic bodies. Alternatively, there is the Anthony Gormley Field for the British Isles exhibition including 35 000 small terracotta figures which fill the gallery from wall to wall. Until 17 November.

Any metal fans out there? An exhibition entitled Sound and Fury focuses on the iconography associated with heavy metal music. A range of album covers, stage props and costumes will be on display. Until 23 November.

If that’s not to your taste, how about the Camberwell Collection exhibition? The original collection began in 1951 with the Council for Industrial Design to bring awareness of good design to school children in London. It was then taken over by the Camberwell College of Art in 1990. Objects on display include pottery by Hans Coper and Lucie Rie, factory glass, textiles and children’s toys. Until 20 October.

Those of you in Glasgow can take in the Shot up north exhibition, in which leading photographers from the Association of photographers based in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England will exhibit recent work. Until 4 October.
