The Royal College of Art has pulled out of its £30m planned extension after local opposition to the scheme, led by the Royal Albert Hall, was successful in a bid for a public enquiry that would have cost the RCA an estimated £1m. The Grimshaw-designed extension was to be called the Ellipse.
