Design Council trumpets aims

The Design Council’s Education and Training Foundation is “arming kids to have a sense of design”, says senior education manager Eileen Barlex. Her rallying call comes as the foundation publishes its first report.

The foundation has produced the interim findings on its programme Design Focus in Schools, hailed as a new beginning for design in primary and secondary schools.

The foundation “is seeking to develop a holistic long-term strategy for design in education, training and continuous learning in the UK”, according to the report .

* Student design magazine D is being relaunched this month after a four-year gap, with the original editorial and design team. No longer part of the Design Council, the magazine will be published by Gillard Welch Associates of Solihull. Editor is Morven Cooke with Penny Dommett as art editor.
