Profits rise for WPP Group

WPP Group – parent of Sampson Tyrrell, Coley Porter Bell and BDG/McColl and US design consultancies Anspach Grossman Portugal and SBG Partners – has announced a 57 per cent increase in pre-tax profits for the year to end 1994.

The media group turned in a pre-tax profit of ú85.3m (up on ú54.4m). While turnover remained almost the same at ú6.014bn (ú6bn), operating profits rose by 18 per cent to ú112.1m (ú95m). Sampson Tyrrell, Coley Porter Bell, BDG/McColl and SBG Partners `performed particularly well’, according to group chief executive Martin Sorrell.

WPP’s shares stood at 103p as Design Week went to press, down from a 129p peak in 1994.
