Advertising agency M&C Saatchi has appointed graphic designer Peter Saville as creative director.
According to M&C Saatchi executive creative director Graham Fink, the role is a part- time one, but he expects Saville will be in the office ‘more often than not’.
Fink says Saville has been brought in to help shake up the ‘tired’ team format of art director/copywriter that is common in advertising agencies. Similar appointments are possible in the future, he says, though none have yet been finalised.
Saville says he has been brought on to ‘say what he thinks’ of the agency’s creative work, from an ‘objective, arm’s length position’. He insists this is not a hands-on role and it will not impact his involvement with other projects, such as his work with Manchester City Council.
