Releasing information to credit where credit is due

Your Vox Pop on PR (DW 18 April) is a worthy subject to raise. PR is no doubt useful and the law apparently states creators have a right to be identified as such. And it is good that the Design Business Association is working on designers’ behalves with the Office of Fair Trading to help clarify a point close to my heart.

In our highly competitive environment, creativity and innovation are highly desirable assets for products and brands. Designers should negotiate to make use of their PR rights on client projects. I am not an expert, but perhaps designers can help themselves by asserting moral rights in relation to their work within their contract. Ignoring PR needs may increase designers’ risk of disappointment and frustration.
