Morrison sets trams on line

Germany’s Hanover transport authority stra is gearing up for the city’s Expo 2000 with plans to boost its fleet of trams.

Jasper Morrison is working on designs for new additions to the fleet which are due on track in 1997. Morrison’s Office for Design was appointed after a proposals pitch against a German office already working on concepts.

“The new concept will mean extra capacity with the tram being wider above the platform height and a combination of longitudinal and crossways seating,” says Morrison. “We’ve also shortened the coupling distance, achieving two of the main parts of the briefs – increasing capacity and reducing the risk of accidents.”
