BAFTA Interactive honours design

BBC designers took three awards at this year’s BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards, while digital media groups Deepend London, Digit and Cimex Media also scored.

In-house teams at the corporation won the Enhancement of Linear Media, News and Factual categories for its Wimbledon/ Golf Coverage, News On-line and the History websites respectively. BBC On-line also took the Best UK Developer award in recognition of its “high-quality, far-reaching content” according to the judges.

Deepend scooped Best Entertainment Website for its Cartoon Network website (www.cartoon-network.co.uk). Other winners include London consultancy Digit for its work for MTV2, Nintendo’s in-house-designed PokÈmon Game Boy and Lego’s Steven Spielberg Moviemaker set, which is yet to be launched.

David Bowie was presented with the Berner-Lee award for Best Personal Contribution to the UK Interactive Industry – for his on-line portal BowieNet and Cimex Media won a gong for its work with Glasshead Productions on the Channel 4 Homework High website.

BAFTA chairman Simon Relph says many of the top awards this year have gone to companies consumers usually associate with traditional entertainment.

“This is proof that the gap between digital media, film and television is closing,” he adds.
