Pentagram partner Justus Oehler designs book covers for publishing house Faber & Faber. Quentin Newark, founder of Atelier Works, has designed book covers for a variety of publishers. Oehler and Newark were asked to review the jacket designs of the books shortlisted for the 2000 Booker Prize. They knew nothing about the books – they hadn’t read them, seen the covers nor knew who had designed them – apart from the Faber & Faber design, created by Oehler. In effect, they were seeing them as you would first see them in a book shop
