Freelances are a part of the design industry that cannot be overlooked

We agree with Roger Rundle of The Team that an opportunity was missed by Design Week in not including freelances in its recent recruitment survey (DW 6 October).

Workstation has serviced the design world with freelance designers and other freelance staff since 1989.

When covering for freelance positions, designers need to show a higher degree of creativity and proficiency in design skills than many permanent positions may initially tolerate. Freelances also need to have the right personality and experience to walk into what may likely be an under-staffed and pressurised design studio and pick up projects without much of a problem.

Since most consultancies have a policy for employing freelances to help handle projects and meet deadlines, surely freelance recruitment is just as important as permanent recruitment for design companies?
