Priestman quits council commitments

Chairman of the Design Skills Advisory Panel Paul Priestman has decided to quit the post, and his position as a Design Council member, leaving both roles next month.

According to a spokeswoman for the Design Council, Priestman’s departure is because of pressing work commitments. However, sources suggest that there were disagreements over the council’s strategies and purpose. Priestman declined to comment.

A replacement is being sought for the Advisory Panel, which is co-run by the Design Council and Creative & Cultural Skills. Priestman’s exit comes as the panel this week begins the assessment of its Keep British Design Alive consultation.

Design Council members are appointed jointly by the Secretary for Trade and Industry, and the Culture Secretary.
