Pioneering American visual impairment organisation Lighthouse International has collaborated with New York-based design group Lippincott & Margulies to create a new graphic identity system.

In addition to changing the company name from Lighthouse to Lighthouse International, two typefaces have been modified for greater readability. There are also new colour contrast guidelines.

Lighthouse International president and chief executive officer Barbara Silverstone says, “Encouraging the design community to look at us as an expert resource is fundamental to our mission. We want to urge them to adopt the principles of universal design across a spectrum of applications.”

Lippincott & Margulies senior partner and project manager Suzanne Hogan adds, “Great design needn’t be compromised by making accommodations for people with visual impairment. Good design is simply good for everyone.”
