Astound and DSP rejuvenate York hotel

Astound and DSP Architects have collaborated for the £500 000 redesign of York’s prestigious Dean Court Hotel, which is near completion.

While keeping period details, the interior design reflects ‘a timeless feel of modern elegance’, which hotel manager David Brooks says he was keen to portray.

Astound director Steve Royle says the hotel was looking to grow its customer base of clients aged between 60 and 80, and needed to update its design accordingly.

‘The biggest task was to design a new interior that would appeal to both our existing clientele but move it on so a younger audience would enjoy it. It was important that the look and feel of the place should flow. The outcome has a classic, contemporary look.’

‘We’ve done the reception, bar, restaurant, waiting areas and hallway. The next stage will be the bedrooms,’ Royle adds. ‘We consider it to be the new hip, trendy place in York.’ The interiors refit began last year.
