Parliament move in redesign?

Parliament will relocate to Battersea Power Station if one of the dozen shortlisted entries to Design Visions is followed through.

Other shortlisted entries to the competition – a collaboration between the Design Council and Parliament’s All Party Group on Design – include a virtual reality solution (right) and a trilobite-inspired extension to the existing building. The virtual parliament would let MPs be virtually transported to locations where they could see first hand the subject of their deliberations.

De Montfort University tops the shortlist with four shortlisted entries. Ravensbourne College has three, the Royal College of Art has two and Middlesex University, Surrey Institute of Art and Design, and Berkshire College of Art and Design have one apiece.

The brief to redesign Parliament for the 21st century challenged students from all disciplines to make it work more effectively.

Judges include Lynda Relph-Knight, architect Eva Jiricna and product designer Ken Grange. The winners will be announced on 23 May.
