Australian café set for spring in to Creative Action

Creative Action Design has designed the brand identity, interiors and graphics for start-up Australian-style café concept Down Under Café.

The café is due to open in May in a retail development off Chatham High Street, Kent. If successful, it will roll out on a small scale nationally, says Creative Action managing director Ian Silverstein.

Interiors are designed to offer ‘a strong sense of Australia’ with driftwood and natural stone floors. The identity, which will be applied to all literature, menus and signage, features Australian landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House.

Down Under Café is the brainchild of Australians Mike and Tracey Upward. They wanted to appeal to shoppers and create a meeting point for people to share travelling experiences, according to Silverstein.

The Upwards originally commissioned the consultancy to design an identity, and interiors work followed on from that, says Silverstein. Creative Action was appointed without a pitch on the strength of previous work with the client in the mobile communications sector.
