Beam’s design of the victory podia for the Manchester Commonwealth Games 2002

Beam has designed the victory podia for the Manchester Commonwealth Games 2002, which launched at the Athletics Championships this week.

The consultancy was briefed to design a system that would take into account the needs of disabled athletes, including wheelchair users and the blind. The podiums still had to be attractive when joined together, enabling teams with able-bodied and wheelchair athletes to be presented simultaneously.

The finished design is constructed on an aluminium powder-coated frame and is a lightweight, one-piece unit.
