Torres MD quits for a new environment

Torres Group co-founder and managing director David Lett has left and joined Anderson Design to set up an interiors division.

Torres directors Eddie McAtominey and Gavin Ferguson are describing Lett’s departure as a mutual and “amicable” decision. After five years with Torres, Lett says: “The company has split.”

Ferguson comments: “[David] wanted to do something else and we wanted to concentrate on what we are doing. We decided to go our separate ways.”

Lett is not being replaced and no one will hold the managing director title, adds Ferguson. Lett actually left Torres at the end of January but resigned as a director last week.

Lett comments: “Torres has become a branding consultancy and is more graphics oriented, while I want to concentrate on environmental design.”

Anderson Design, which has previously specialised in shopping centre work, will now create a new environmental division to tackle interiors, targeted at the new breed of shopping/leisure centre hybrids.

Lett claims it was agreed with Torres that he will be taking several of his clients with him. As

Anderson’s new head of interiors, he is now looking to recruit a team of creatives.

Meanwhile, Torres is currently designing the reception area, plus interiors and branding for a 790m# bar area at Sunderland Football Club’s new stadium.

The stadium, which has been designed by architect Taylor Tulip and Hunter, is due to be completed in August, in readiness for the kick-off of the new football season.
