BT sees profit from 20/20 shop

BT Retail is planning to roll out its BT Shop redesign to over half of its 94 stores by the autumn after a successful pilot.

The 24 newly designed stores, devised by 20/20, have succeeded in generating average profit increases of over 30 per cent, according to BT Retail operations director Mark Gregory.

“They have been a great success – we are doing at least another 24 this year,” continues Gregory. “I would expect no more than eight to be new sites.”

The telecoms group has set its sights on opening more outlets next year, but there is a problem. “Site acquisition is currently a problem… we have to get out of these badly positioned sites and get them relocated,” adds Gregory.

Although high street retail accounts for a small percentage of BT’s turnover, it appointed 20/20 to help redesign the BT Shop layout interiors last year.

Its other retail interest is IT Works, a partnership with Curry’s targeting business customers.
