UCI drops Fitch for UK work in favour of RTKL

United Cinemas International is ceasing to use Fitch for its cinema design in the UK and will instead work solely with London design and architecture group RTKL.

“We are not working with Fitch [in the UK] any more – we are working with RTKL” says UCI senior vice-president northern Europe Steve Knibbs. He adds that RTKL’s remit is to take on new changes UCI has been making and implement “a different theme” and a “fresh feel” on UCI’s next cinema project.

RTKL is currently tasked with refurbishing the Riverside cinema in Norwich which is due to open just before Christmas.

Fitch recently helped complete a 1.2m redesign for the ten-year-old UCI Whitely cinema last year and the UCI megaplex in Manchester. It is also currently working on two cinemas for UCI in Germany and two in Japan and has designed UCI cinemas in Basildon, Cardiff and Huddersfield.

Fitch continues to work with UCI overseas, however. The cinema chain is even said to be negotiating the launch of new sites in China, Poland and Eastern Europe, and it is expected that Fitch will be closely involved with these projects.
