The One Off creates two new UK stores for Kathmandu

The One Off is designing two new stores for Kathmandu, in an attempt to differentiate the outdoor retailer’s offer from rivals Blacks and Millets.

Australia-based Kathmandu is understood to have appointed the consultancy in July, following a four-way pitch. The project brief requested a new retail model that would encourage sales at the stores in London’s Westfield White City and Brighton, which exclusively stock the retailer’s ownbranded products (pictured).

A source close to the project reveals that the new look is pared-back, and uses simple metal racking and timber. ‘Kathmandu is not the sort of outdoor retailer to put a huge water feature in the middle of the store,’ says the source. Topographical lines and compass orientation have been drawn on the floor, picking out local features.

The Westfield outlet will open in the next two weeks.
