Conran gets carried away on a champagne tray

Terence Conran clearly has an eye for the many faces of a good piece of design.

Prior to announcing the winner of the Laurent-Perrier Design Challenge, to create a champagne tray, he gave guests at the ceremony a guided tour of each design and helpful tips on the trays’ further potential functions.

Simon Moor’s intimate, mirrored two-glass affair ‘would be perfect for Twiglets’, he suggested, whereas Hugo Eccles’ piece could ‘make a nice breast-plate’ if suits of armour ever make a big comeback.

Oh, Mary Wagstaff scooped the £3000 prize and a magnum of Laurent-Perrier Rosé. Nice work if you can get it.
