NPG map and guide brief for Thomas Manss

Thomas Manss & Company has designed a map and guide for the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Thomas Manss designer Sandra Zellmer says the consultancy was appointed directly to the work last year. Thomas Manss is on the gallery’s roster of design groups.

The map and guide have been designed in tandem with each other, but while the guide has already been released and is on sale in the NPG’s shop, the map is set to roll out in the autumn.

Zellmer says both projects are intended to work with the gallery’s new signage.

She says, ‘The current map doesn’t really reflect the new signage, so we really tried to integrate the new map with it.’ The guide also picks up on the colours of the signage.

The guide is written by John Cooper and features different elements of information presented in a ‘clean and uncluttered’ layout.

Thomas Manss is also working on marketing material for the 2009 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition, which runs from 5 November to 14 February next year.

The consultancy will be designing the invitation, leaflet and catalogue for the show.

Thomas Manss created a logo for last year’s exhibition, and Zellmer says that this can now be revived. ‘The intention is to create a branded exhibition,’ she says.
