Designers ‘need a union’, says DW poll
More than 70 per cent of Design Week readers believe the design industry needs a trade union, according to a DW poll.
The survey, on www.designweek.co.uk, shows that 70.3 per cent of respondents think designers need a trade union, while 29.6 per cent think the industry is fine without one.
Last week the Design Assembly collective wrote an open letter to Tory MP Greg Hands, who had questioned the need for the Government to outsource some graphic design.
Design Assembly co-designer Matt Judge said, ‘I guess what is really frustrating is that there doesn’t seem to be any voice for designers – no trade union or response system. That’s why we felt compelled as a collective to act.’

I think that is not only UK that needs “one voice” for all.
We must think about the future of Design in Europe.
An interesting link to the post today on professional certification. Surely this is a job for organsiations like CSD, BDI etc? I cannot see how a union approach would benefit the design industry.
