As the successful Olympics bid team regroups to organise the 2012 games in London, what steps should the fledgling London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games take to ensure effective design management in the run-up to the event?

For the greatest project on earth, I think we should hold regional heats and pitch the best designers head-to-head against the clock. Find out who can create a full set of Olympic symbols in under ten seconds; who can jump through the most hoops; and allot four minutes to create the opening ceremony concept. There should be a grand final to decide the roster under floodlights at Wembley. There needs to be a mix of youth and experience and a team of consultancies with their own specialist events, captained by a leader everyone respects.
