Unpaid pitching needs the Dutch treatment

With regard to your article entitled “DoH will not rule out unpaid creative pitching” (DW 15 March), I have a suggestion.

In The Netherlands, companies that tender for government work have to obey the condition that the winner must pay the costs of the losers. This gives small companies a chance to compete with bigger companies.

Why not apply this system to unpaid pitches? The design company which wins the pitch could pay the costs of the ones that lose. It’s only a suggestion, but it may work. Winners who have to pay the costs of 12 losers would think twice before entering any future pitches in case they win again.
