Goolies bars any sexual innuendo in the toilets

Adam Rawls of Rawls & Company was originally asked to slap on “a lick of paint” at bar and restaurant Goolies, which opened last week.

“Just tidy up a bit will you, Adam?” was the request of client Mike Gooley, for whom the venue is named.

Apparently, Gooley went on holiday for a few months and was devastated to discover on his return that his favourite bar, Drinks, had closed. So he purchased it. Rawls persuaded Gooley that a lot of design work was necessary and a complete revamp took place, to Gooley’s increasing delight.

There was just one sticking point – the smallest room. Rawls and team were careful to avoid any innuendo concerning the bar’s name, but felt a small lapse was permitted in this area.

They suggested “very distinct” handles to label the male and female toilets.

The men’s handle would, apparently, echo the name of the bar, while the fairer sex’s closet would be entered, so to speak, via “some sort of device where you had to put your hand inside”, according to Rawls.

But Gooley baulked at this idea. He obviously had quite enough of this sort of thing when he was at school.
