It may be a case of mad dogs and Englishwomen, but it’s all for a damned good cause.

Webb Scarlett Design’s Diana Hawes is heading over to Egypt to cycle 100km a day around the Egyptian desert in blazing sunshine to raise money for Mencap, the charity for people with learning disabilities.

The consultancy has started the sponsorship ball rolling by pledging 200 – but Hawes aims to raise at least 2000.

She has designed a logo to promote her efforts, and is arranging fund-raising parties and pub competitions over the next few months. The ride will take place in March. Interested parties should call Hawes at Webb Scarlett on 0171-706 8076.
