Cycling designer eventually finds his way home

Industrial designer Tim Doherty, a former employee of Smallfry Industrial Design, has re-appeared on British shores this week in search of work.

Having been missing, after embarking on a round-the-world cycle ride for charity in July 1997, Doherty finally reached land on 5 October.

Interrupted only by flights every three months to his girlfriend in Austria, Doherty’s 22 000-mile ride spanned Sheffield, Iran, Pakistan, Timor, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and Wales.

The only problem was, by the time the intrepid Doherty got back he wasn’t even recognised by his charity, Intermediate Technology, because just about all the staff had moved on.
