Young Vic returns with three theatres

The Young Vic reopens its doors on 11 October, with a revamped identity by Intro and interiors designed by architect Haworth Tompkins.

The £12.5m complex will comprise three theatres – including a new 160-seat auditorium and 80-seat studio – and a restaurant. The old building has gone, but key features, including the original butchers shop entrance and main auditorium, have been retained.

It is understood that interiors will have a light-industrial aesthetic, making use of materials including plywood and breeze block brick. Interiors have been designed as flexible, functional spaces that can be adapted to meet the needs of the eclectic range of productions the theatre is renowned for hosting.

The Intro identity features a ‘stencil-style’ logo ‘in harmony with the building’, says Intro creative director Adrian Talbot.
