D&AD shortlist announced

The nominations for the 1999 British Design and Art Direction Awards, to be held on 5 May, have been released. Design entries fall broadly into nine categories.

The graphic design section gets the largest number of nominations this year, for annual reports, poster campaigns, and brochures.

Nominees in the graphics categories include Johnson Banks’ typography for Yellow Pages and Trickett & Webb’s Touchstone Exhibitions handbook.

Wolff Olins faces no rival entries for the corporate branding category, in which it has entered its identity for British Airways subsidiary airline Go.

MetaDesign London’s Glasgow 1999 Type Movie goes head to head with Deepend’s VW Beetle website in the interactive section.

Apple Design Group has entered its bestselling iMac in one of the product design sub-categories. Other product design categories see entries from Pentagram for Canongate Books’ The Pocket Canons: words of the wise and Queensberry Hunt Levien’s Space Toilet.
