Glasgow 1999 has appointed Dr Stuart MacDonald to the new position of director for The Lighthouse, Scotland’s 11m Centre for Architecture, Design and the City.
MacDonald, who takes up the position on 1 February, is currently Glasgow 1999’s education director and was a founder of the Scottish Architectural Education Trust.
He was shortlisted with six other applicants. He will be responsible for establishing the centre as a successful new cultural and educational institution.
“The Lighthouse will become the focus for the creative activities of the community,” says
MacDonald. “The 1999 programme for The Lighthouse is well developed, the key task will be to build on that and continue its exciting programme into the year 2000 and beyond,” he adds.
The Lighthouse building, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is being converted by local architect Page & Park. Identity and interiors are by Spanish designer Javier Mariscal with Sam Booth of Glasgow group LWD (DW 5 December 1997).
