In her forthcoming manual, The Heart of Leadership, Spencer offers persuasive arguments about how the ‘old rules no longer apply’ in the field of leadership – that it’s the ‘soft stuff’ like ’emotional intelligence’ that leaders need nowadays. Those of you not yet 100 per cent sold by this radical rethink should take some time to let the seven key steps sink in properly. If worst comes to the worst, they’ll always come in useful for a presentation or something.
