US medical products manufacturer Mentor is set to launch the Detector, designed by Californian consultancy Bridge Design. This invention is used to aid reconstructive breast surgery after mastectomies. The device locates the injection port of the Contour Profile Tissue Expander, a separate device surgically implanted into patients to help form space for a permanent implant. The Detector has been awarded a design excellence award by Medical Device & Diagnostics magazine.
