Chemistry right for UCL promo

Hudson Fuggle has created a promotional campaign for University College London, as the college moves to reverse a decline in students taking chemistry degrees.

According to UCL chemistry department resources manager Julie Davis, the department views ‘aggressive marketing’ as the best way to maintain its position as one of the top six in the country.

With fewer students interested in chemistry degrees the problem is not confined to UCL, but the college is the first university to take such an approach, Davis adds.

The group has created a series of brochures, posters and postcards for the campaign. A website is also planned. Hudson Fuggle designer Clare Madden says the campaign uses bold, strong colours and imagery and simple questions to arouse curiosity.

The campaign is designed to attract both potential students and their parents, including those who have little scientific knowledge, says Madden.
