Inspired, Lucy Nunn – Two Create

Two Create is a multidisciplinary consultancy and every project we undertake is different, so we search for fresh inspiration on every brief.

We started consulting with Parfums Givenchy in 2005. In 2007, our first product, the Rouge Interdit lipstick, was launched. Parfums Givenchy recently described the design as a future icon of the brand, and earlier this year Wallpaper magazine awarded it a Wallpaper Design Award.

When designing the lipstick, we were, of course, inspired by the haute couture fashion expertise of Hubert de Givenchy. His creations were designed to make women feel feminine and elegant – we wanted our design to do the same. The experience of delicately pulling the lipstick barrel from the sleeve with a ribbon was a considered design feature. We choose ribbon for this application after studying the fine detailing of the collections of Givenchy Couture’s current creative director, Ricardo Tisci.

Givenchy Le Make-Up carries the motto ‘Small is Beautiful’. We likened this motto to Matryoshka nesting dolls by creating a smaller precious object hidden inside a larger one. The discreet, monolithic, black lacquered sleeve of the lipstick conceals a luxurious metallised barrel, embossed with the Givenchy signature logo.

We were also inspired by Givenchy’s chic, French style. We conveyed this by transforming the lipstick into a fashion accessory, which we feel is befitting of Givenchy’s original muse, Audrey Hepburn.
