The latest in a batch of highly designed hair salons has opened in London’s Exmouth Market with a medical theme.

Designed by two-year-old consultancy 24/Seven, The Klinik is housed in a 4.5m-high space and features a number of clinical references.

The especially designed waiting bench is meant to be “half way between a psychiatrist’s chaise longue and a hospital bed”, says designer Graeme Williamson.

A digital camera hangs from the ceiling behind each of the three stations. The clients can watch the backs of their heads on screen, as well as seeing themselves reflected in the mirror in front, thereby “focusing on the vanity of the consumer”, Williamson adds.

As well as creating the interiors, the two-strong group designed the identity and applied it to stationery for hair stylist Anna Forsling’s first outlet.

Williamson was appointed to the job, having had his hair cut by Forsling for the past four years.

The Klinik follows the opening of The Lounge on Soho’s Peter Street which had design input from Tomato (DW 10 July).
