Birmingham furniture show is a tack haven

I have just visited the International Furniture Show in Birmingham. I think that a visit to this exhibition should be built into the curriculum of every design course in this country, for as a celebration of popular taste it is surely without equal. After three halls of upholstery that owed more to Miss Piggy than to human factors, and tables made of everything from swans and false ruins to life-sized casts of panthers, I decided enough was enough and escaped.

My main concern was that I might have been the unwitting winner of a prize that involved spending money with an exhibitor at the show.
