The perfect pub has a good cast of regulars, no screen…

In response to your Voxpop asking what I would change to improve the pub-going experience (DW 16 June), I am sorry to see so many pubs being closed down or turned into part of a chain usually because they are badly managed or haven’t changed with the times.

For me, it is all about the people they make or break a pub. My perfect pub is independent, has great staff, a good batch of regular characters and a friendly atmosphere. If it serves decent food, has an interesting wine list and provides eclectic music, even better.

Avoid pubs with machines (apart from juke boxes) and screens of any kind except on important match days.
