Red has been Virgin’s colour from the very beginning

Jim Davies’s article, Hue and Cry, described colour as being integral to certain big brands, and claims that Virgin Mobile copied Vodafone by selecting red as its corporate colour (DW 16 March). Virgin Mobile is part of the long-established Virgin Group of companies, which dates back to the early 1970s.

The Virgin Record Label was launched in 1973 and red was chosen for its identity from day one. It was a natural choice, when Virgin Mobile launched in 1999, for that to be red too, because it’s part of the Virgin family and red is our colour. We are flattered that Vodafone also chose red as its brand colour when it launched in 1984.
