Norweb is rolling out a new superstore concept by Allen International Consulting.

Plymouth and Wakefield sites opened this week following the unveiling of the prototype in Newport, Gwent, two months ago.

Allen’s designs for interiors and exteriors will be used at the next 20 sites planned for this financial year, while elements will be implemented at the existing store network.

Norweb, formerly North Western Electricity Board, is part of United Utilities, which was formed earlier this year. Norweb marketing manager Jon Herzberg says the board’s key objectives for the concept have included strengthening the corporate identity, increasing product densities and improving customer flow.

The design creates a clearly defined framework for the store, with the key departments being positioned off a circular walkway which surrounds a central service counter and promotional area, says an Allen spokeswoman.

Davies Baron designed Norweb’s original out-of-town outlets (DW 18 December 1992).
