Design training for public sector buyers

The Design Council will approach Government with concepts to improve training and develop practice models for public sector buyers of design – ideas generated by Monday’s conference, Design Decisions: Effective Purchasing in the Public Sector.

The conference, run by the Design Council and left-wing think-tank Social Market Foundation, brought together representatives from the design industry, Government and public and private sectors.

Meanwhile, shadow heritage minister Mark Fisher spoke of a future Labour government taking a “holistic approach” to Civil Service design policy, instead of leaving each Whitehall department to its own devices.

The SMF will update its paper Better Government By Design with ideas from the conference.
