Cobalt creates new look for Saudi retailer

Branding specialist Cobalt is creating a new corporate identity and interiors for Saudi Arabia’s largest food retailer Al OThaim.

The London design group, foundee in 1995, was appointed after a credentials pre-selection.

It is now developing a new store format which will be unveiled in January at Al OThaim’s new flagship store in Riyadh. A further six new superstores and two shopping malls are due to be completed over the next three years.

Cobalt marketing director David Williams says: “We will be examining Al OThaim’s food retail, wholesale, shopping mall and leisure businesses to create a consistent and updated corporate image across the group.”

The London design consultancy has worked extensively in the Middle East during the past four years. Projects have been undertaken in Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.

“Our understanding of the Saudi market was clearly an influence on our appointment. We will be creating a visual identity and unified brand for Al OThaim which combines traditional Saudi values with an emerging acceptance of western style,” according to Williams.
