Arcadia calls for Tillberg
SMC Design has planned the refurbishment of P&O’s Arcadia cruise liner, working with its Swedish parent company, Tillburg. The company was appointed after a credentials pitch.
Tillberg was previously co-ordinating architect for P&O’s flagship, Oriana. Refurbishment of Arcadia will start in October, with a Christmas completion date scheduled.
SMC Design has created interiors for several areas of the ship, including The Century Bar, The Oval pub, the Monte Carlo Club casino, a cards room, photo shop and gallery. Tillberg worked on The Pacific Restaurant and The Conservatory.
The designers used the ship’s Art Deco style as a starting point for most of the work, with the exception of The Oval, which is based on a Victorian city pub.
