British Telecom will retain its name and identity in the UK even if its proposed merger with US telecommunications group MCI goes ahead. BT shareholders approved the deal last week.
If the merger is approved a new company, Concert, will be formed. But the Concert title will only be used for trading outside the UK, says a spokeswoman. The BT identity, including the piper logo, will still be used in this country.
The merger now awaits official approval.
