Merged group prescribes new identity

The names of international pharmaceutical groups Pharmacia and Upjohn, which announced a merger this week, will both be incorporated into the group’s new logo, according to a spokesman.

The merger of Pharmacia of Sweden and US company Upjohn will create a group with com- bined sales of around 4.5bn.

“We will need a new identity by December, when we become a joint operating company,” says the spokesman. “Both Pharmacia and Upjohn need their names to be prominent in the new symbol.”

Stockholm-based Pharmacia had its identity updated in 1993 by Swedish consultancy Sohlbergs.

The merged group’s new headquarters will be located in London. A building has not yet been found, according to an Upjohn spokesman.
